21st Workers Festival of the GDR 1986 On the occasion of the 21st Workers Festival of the GDR in the district of Magdeburg in 1986, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued two multicolored special postage stamps in combination with an intermediate field. The festival takes place in 1986 in the district of Magdeburg, that district, which was host to the 3rd Workers Festival of the GDR in 1961. In this second largest district of the GDR between the mountains of the Harz and the lowlands of the Havel, between Osterburg and Wernigerode, Genthin and Haldensleben, we encounter witnesses of creative activity from past and present, meaningfully united in the socialist today. Whether the heavy machinery and equipment in VEB heavy machinery construction combine "Ernst Thülmann", diesel units from the heavy machinery combine "Karl Liebknecht", tractors from Schönebeck, Kali from Zielitz, of course, the television sets from Staßfurt, the sugar beet and the grain - all and much more characterizes the industrially and agriculturally strong district. Modern residential areas and industrial facilities were built in harmony with historical architectural and artistic monuments in the Romanesque and Gothic style, rebuilt and preserved with love and care, to the working people and holiday makers to enjoy. In this beautiful setting, the great program of the 21st Workers' Festival will present the artistic talents of those who create and preserve all this; at the festival of heavy machinery builders in Magdeburg, the Kalikumpel in Wolmirstedt, the construction worker in Stendal and the forestry worker in Haldensleben, at the 10th Cultural Festival of the working people of socialist agriculture in Altenweddingen, at the festival of song and singing in Halberstadt, in the exhibitions of the artistic folk art and graphics in Magdeburg, the folklore festival in Wernigerode, at the work theaters in Staßfurt, at the days of the amateur film in Schönebeck, at the 17th parade of soldiers song in the 30th anniversary of the existence of the NVA, the tribute of the great son of City of Magdeburg, Erich Weinert, and in the center of youth in Magdeburg.
