On the subjects of history and civics, art and culture, science and technology, physical culture and sports, significant exhibits of young collectors between the ages of 10 and 25 will be on display. In addition, there are country and special collections, exhibits on postal history, chronicles as well as literature and lectures on philatelic youth work. The organizer of the exhibition is the Philatelistenverband in the cultural association of the GDR. Since the 2nd stamp exhibition of the youth of the GDR in 1970, postage stamps for these highlights of the Jugendphilatelie have always appeared. Since the 4th exhibition 1976 in Gera, it is customary to combine the history and the present of the venue in the form of cityscapes and city coats of arms on two brands and an intermediate field. This tradition is continued in 1986. The stamp at 10 + 5 Pfennig shows a cityscape of Berlin from 1652, as created by the engraver Caspar Merian (1627-86). Shortly after the Thirty Years' War, under the consequences of which the city suffered severely, Berlin counted about 6,000 inhabitants and 750 houses. Although the seat of government of the electorate of Brandenburg, Berlin at that time only began the development that brought it one and a half centuries later into the series of major European cities. This is also confirmed by the fact that Matthias Merion the Elder, the founder of "Topographien", that large collection of city views of Europe, Berlin did not record during his lifetime and this left his sons in the continuation of the work. The reproduced view gives a view from the west on the city with location of the observer approximately in the height of today's crossing Friedrichstraße / Unter den Linden. On the original 23 x 72 cm etching in the foreground on the right is the later road Unter den Linden indicated by rows of trees. Behind the river Spree one can see from left to right among other things the castle church, the Nikolaikirche, the castle, the Wasserkunst, the city fortifications, the cathedral and the town hall of Cölln, the twin city of Berlin.
