Leipzig Autumn Fair 1985 On the occasion of the Leipzig Autumn Fair 1985, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes two multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from 27th August to 26th October 1985 10 Pfennig value: Bose House at the Thomaskirchhof The special postage stamp is dedicated to the 300th birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach. It shows the picture of the building Thomaskirchhof 16, called Bosehaus. The city of Leipzig occupies a special place in the life of Johann Sebastian Bach. Here he worked in the years 1723-1750, took over a variety of commitments - especially the famous of the St. Thomas Cantor - and created, albeit with difficulty, comprehensive conditions for all his musical work. The time in Leipzig can be regarded as a highlight in the work of the great composer. From Leipzig with its extensive possibilities from rich impulses of a living brook care of theoretical as well as practical kind in all world. With the handing over of the Johann Sebastian Bach Museum Leipzig in the Bosehaus on the 300th birthday of the master to the people of Leipzig and their guests, a long-cherished wish becomes reality. After the approximately 400-year-old merchant's house, whose art-loving owner Georg Heinrich Bose was connected with Bach and his family in friendship, was subjected to a comprehensive monument preservation reconstruction, good conditions were given. It was necessary, especially the magnificent courtyard as Bach knew him as well as largely to regain the room layout of 1711. On the street side, for practical considerations and urban aesthetic considerations, the outdated 19th century façade has been retained. Today, the Bose House, next to the Johann Sebastian Bach Museum, houses the National Research and Memorial Sites of Johann Sebastian Bach. "
