Around 3,000 athletes (active and coaches), 5,000 officials and members of the press and some 10,000 spectators will be in the third largest city of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, with its magnificent mountain massifs of Bjelasnica (2,067 m), Jahorina (1,913 m), The Igman (1,190 m) and the Trebevic (1,647 m) offer ideal winter sports conditions and a unique panorama for the XIV Olympic Winter Games. 25-pfennig value: Cross-country skiing Cross-country skiing has been part of the Olympic program since the beginning. In 1924, the men started over 18 and 50 km, so in 1936, the program extended to the 4x10-km relay. Since 1952 there is the so-called "ski sprint" of men over 15 km, and from 1956 still the 30 km cross-country skiing. Only in 1952 could the ladies on the 10 km track give their Olympic debut. Four years later, they started for the first time in the 3 x 5 km relay, before the "Sprint" track (5 km) was introduced in 1964 for the ladies as well. In 1984 there will be another discipline for women in Sarajevo, the 20 km cross-country skiing.
