XIV Olympic Winter Games 1984 On the occasion of the XIVth Olympic Winter Games 1984, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues four multicolored special postage stamps, two of them with surcharge, and one block. The money received as a supplement will be used by the company to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. Special cancellation from 22 November 1983 to 21 January 1984 XIV Olympic Winter Games 1984 From 8 to 19 February 1984, the XIV Winter Olympics will be held in Sarajevo, the capital of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Around 3,000 athletes (active and coaches), 5,000 officials and members of the press and some 10,000 spectators will be in the third largest city of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, with its magnificent mountain massifs of Bjelasnica (2,067 m), Jahorina (1,913 m), The Igman (1,190 m) and the Trebevic (1,647 m) offer ideal winter sports conditions and a unique panorama for the XIV Olympic Winter Games. 10 + 5-pfennig value: Racing sled racing Only since 1964 is the racing sled sport, in the Olympic program. Medals will be awarded in four races each for the women's single-seater, men's single-seater and in two races for the men's double. Since the brilliant debut in 1964 by Ortrun Enderlein and Thomas Köhler, GDR racing sled athletes have returned home with gold medals from all Olympic Winter Games.
