VII. Gymnastics and sports festival and IX. Children's and Youth Spartakiads of the GDR, Leipzig 1983 On the occasion of the VII. Gymnastics and Sports Festival and the IX. Kinder- und Jugendspartakiade, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued two multicolored special postage stamps, one of which was a supplement. In their colorful beauty, they express joie de vivre, optimism and future certainty. "The members of the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation of the GDR prepare the Leipzig holiday season with a variety of activities and initiatives in the socialist competition" Spartakiade- und Sportfeststafette 83 " In doing so, they work in close and comradely cooperation with the state institutions and social organizations, in particular the FDGB, the organs of popular education and the FDJ, as well as with all forces united in the National Front of the GDR The National Festival of Physical Culture and Sports participates through sporting events With a high degree of effectiveness, through mass exercises with high effectiveness, through the demonstration of high sporting achievements as well as a versatile sport-cultural program, we build on the traditions of past gymnastic and sports festivals and children's and youth spas artakiaden. After the opening event takes place the sports show of the DTSB of the GDR, which is designed by twelve practice associations with 30,000 participants. 12,000 Spartakiad rivals will fight for the coveted medals in 19 Olympic sports. Interesting national sports competitions in various sports are just as much a part of the festive program as international competitions in football, cycling, athletics, show gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics. The unity of art and sport will be clearly visible during the feast days; outstanding cultural events are on the program for the citizens of Leipzig and their guests. The results of the competition for the "Art Prize of the DTSB of the GDR" will be made available to the public in an exhibition "Art and Sport" on June 15, 1983. The parade and the consecration of the flag will also be part of the program The 7th Gymnastics and Sports Festival and the IXth Children and Youth Spartakiade of the GDR will underline once again: physical culture and sport are an integral part of the FDJ's "Gymnastics and Sports Party" The national festival of physical culture and sport is a worthy contribution of East German sport in the Karl Marx Year 1983.
