Leipziger Herbstmesse 1982 At the Leipzig Autumn Fair in 1982, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues two multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from 24th August to 23rd October 1982 Leipzig Autumn Fair 1982 10 Pfennig value: Messehaus Stenzlers Hof In contrast to the exhibition center in the southeast of the city of Leipzig, the consumer goods showrooms in the city center do not form a self-contained territory. But this is precisely the way in which they have shaped the inner cityscape of Leipzig - through their different locations, their passages and courtyards. Leipzig distinguishes itself from all other trade fair cities in the world in this special urban development. The most visible reflection of the history of the Leipzig Trade Fair is the architecture of its buildings, of which a large part fell victim to World War II. In the years 1914 to 1916, the Stentzlers Hof trade fair hall in reinforced concrete construction was built at the entrance of Petersstraße / Ecke Peterskirchhof - according to designs by the architect Leopold Stenzler - and handed over to its purpose in the spring of 1916. The five-storey building, which was relatively unaffected by the effects of the war, with its architecturally ornamental gable towards the Peterskirchhof and an extensive shopping area on the ground floor, was originally available to exhibitors of paper goods and later for office supplies, footwear and sporting goods. In line with the growing commercial demands, "Stenzlers Hof" has been used since the beginning of the seventies for the Leipzig Spring and Autumn fairs by domestic and foreign exporters and importers exclusively for negotiating activities (that is, without a public offer) of the trade fair industry leisure activities, sporting goods and furniture. It covers a trade fair area of 3,500 square meters. A noteworthy detail on the building is the Roland equipped with sword and coat of arms shield, which presents itself on the outer front - in the corner area of the first floor - as the guardian of the historic market privileges of the trade fair city.
