Vill. Children and Jugendspartakiade of the GDR 1981 To the VIll. Children's and Youth Spartakiads of the GDR In 1981, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued two multicolored special postage stamps, one of which was a supplement. The sums collected will be made available to the Spartakiad. Special Stamps from June 23 to August 22, 1981 VIII. Child and Youth Spartakiade of the GDR 1981 A few months after the Xth Party Congress of the SED, the VIII. Child and Youth Spartakiade of the GDR will be the highlight of the children's and youth sports in our country. Traditionally, Berlin, the capital of the GDR, in July again hosted around 11,000 young athletes from all districts of the GDR. In the period from 20 to 27 July 1981, the VIII. Child and Youth Spartakiade of the GDR in summer sports will be held here. In boxing, fencing, football, gymnastics, weightlifting, handball, judo, canoe racing, athletics, performance gymnastics, cycling, wrestling, roller blading, rowing, sailing, sport shooting, swimming, volleyball and water jumping, our best young athletes are competing for the coveted Spartakiademedailles. They qualified for participation last year in the district partaki. The young athletes of our country between the ages of eight and 18 years will compete with exemplary fighting spirit, fairness and great enthusiasm as well as with high sporting results for new best performances and for the victory. The Spartakiad competitions will document the high level of development in children's and youth sports and the unity of mass character and aspirations in the socialist sports organization and also express the grace, beauty and zest for life in the sporting movement. There will be a variety of cultural events in the framework program of the VIII. Children's and Youth Spartakiads, such as: For example, the visit of historical sites and places of interest, concerts of the DTSB minstrels, cultural events, talks with outstanding athletes and representatives of the DTSB, the FDJ and its pioneer organization "Ernst Thalmann" and the organs of popular education, the bearers of the Spartakiad movement. In an appeal to the Memorial for the Soviet Fallen in Berlin-Treptow and a wreath-laying ceremony in the memorial of the socialists in Berlin-Friedrichsfelde the Spartakiad participants will express their unwavering friendship with the Soviet Union and honor the legacy of the anti-fascist resistance fighters. All these events will contribute to the young Spartakiad participants finding joy, happiness and relaxation in addition to their sporting competitions. The preparation and implementation of the VIII. Child and Youth Spartakiade of the GDR will again underline that the Spartakiadebewegung is an integral part of social life in the GDR and an effective method for the development of children and youth sports.
