Solidarity, Edition 1981 In support of International Solidarity, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a multicolored special postage stamp with surcharge. The sums collected will be made available to the Solidarity Committee of the GDR. Special cancellation from 6 October to 5 December 1981 Solidarity Africa is bursting its chains. Today the continent is on the rise from colonial and imperialist exploitation to a life of peace and freedom, a better tomorrow. During the last two decades, the national liberation movement in Africa has achieved great success. The colonial system in its classic forms has been eliminated. From the rubble of the former colonial possessions grew nationally liberated states. Today, the voice of Africa in international life is heard aloud for peace, disarmament and relaxation, for freedom and independence, especially for the peoples of southern Africa, in the last fortress of racism. The peoples of Namibia and South Africa are linked by the same fate and the same goal. Under the leadership of their liberation organization SWAPO and ANC they want to realize their inalienable right to national independence and their own choice of a progressive social order. With the increasing strength and solidarity of progressive humanity all over the world, the peoples of southern Africa are beginning to cross the threshold to freedom, to a dignified life. The South African racists, supported by imperialist states, are trying to stop this process. They want to preserve at all costs the imperialist bastions of colonial and racist oppression and exploitation of 25 million African people, and to reverse the progressive development in Africa by diverting them to neo-colonialist paths. But the advance of the African forces of progress is unstoppable even in the south of the continent. The example of the developmental path of such progressive states as Ethiopia, Angola and Moçambique, the solidary alliance with the socialist states, has an inspiring and encouraging effect on the liberation struggle. The victory of the people of Zimbabwe was a new ignominious defeat for imperialism and further limited its sphere of influence in the south. Masterfully, Namibia's independence is on the agenda today. For more than 90 years, the Namibian people have been colonized. During this time the names of the conquerors changed, but the oppression and exploitation remained. The GDR stands by the people of Namibia in the fight for the enforcement of its legitimate rights in solidarity with the side. It is in accordance with the traditions of the working class that the people of our country today and always oppose any imperialist, colonialist and neo-colonialist, against any racist oppression and discrimination, and support the struggle politically, morally, diplomatically and materially wherever it takes place. Active solidarity for the fighting Africa - both for the peoples fighting for their fundamental human rights in the south of the continent as well as for the young, independent states struggling for social progress - shape the actions of all sections of the population in our republic until the cause of the national and social liberation the peoples of Africa has successfully fought. An African proverb says, "As long as the night lasts, the morning breaks yet." We are certain that the peoples of southern Africa, after a long bondage, can celebrate the morning of freedom, independence and self-determination.
