Endangered animals With illustrations of several endangered species, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues six multi-colored special postage stamps. Endangered animals 25-pfennig value: White ear pheasant One of the great rarities in pheasant collections is the white ear pheasant. In the mountains of southeast Tibet to West Szigetkhan and northwest Yunnan he inhabits altitudes of 3,000 to 4,500 m. Much of the food (roots and insect larvae) not only scratch them with their feet from the ground, but the strong beak is used as a grave instrument. Exact information on the populations of these live pheasants in the wild are missing. In captivity, about 300 copies are kept. This quite substantial increase in stocks has only been achieved in recent years. Tierpark Berlin has been cultivating this rarity since 1968, and of the nearly 70 white-eared pheasants that have been hatched here, many have been sources for breeding in other zoos.
