Olympic Winter Games, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic, four multicolored special postage stamps, including one with surcharge, and a block out. All motifs depict depictions of winter sports disciplines created by artists of the German Democratic Republic. The sums raised will be made available to the Society to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. XIII. Winter Olympics 1980 The XIII. Lake Placid's 1980 Winter Olympics, in conjunction with such major sporting events, have become a traditional occasion for issuing a series of special postage stamps. New to this series is the compilation of the individual motifs on winter sports. It represents in its specific way the presentation of the theme by visual artists of the GDR. Therefore, this series is not only a renewed expression of the appreciation of the high, inspiring achievements of our athletes and the international reputation of GDR sports, but it also acknowledges the fact that physical culture and sports have become a fully-fledged subject of the visual arts of the GDR. The 25 + 10 Pfennig value contains the image of the plastic group of Günter Schütz (born 1934) special jumper (1978, height 450 cm bronze, owned by the ASK Oberhof). The pictorial composition of this group, which makes clear the action of the jumpers in their relationship to the ski jump, at the same time symbolizes the pursuit of space, the audacity and mastery of the athletes.
