The sums raised will be made available to the Society to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. Games of the XXII. Olympiad 1980, 2nd edition For the first time in the history of the modern Olympic movement, the summer games, the games of the XXII. 1980 Olympics, held in the capital of a socialist state, in Moscow. Also for this series were selected works of fine art with sportive motives. Between sport and the arts of the GDR, creative relationships have emerged that find their common ground in the socially important goal of making specific contributions to the development of socialist personalities and to shaping their way of life. The sport of the GDR became a fully valid subject of the visual arts of the GDR. Willi Sitte (born 1921) is concerned - as in all his works with his "Swimmer" (1971, oil, 122 x 95 cm, owned by the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig) about the symbol of the socialist man, his personality qualities the will to increase performance, to win, to overcome oneself. This is about the affirmation of the human personality in the sportive confrontation, about the powerful commitment, from the artist's own perspective - partly above, partly below the surface of the water (20 + 10 Pfennig value).
