Endangered animals With illustrations of several endangered species, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues six multi-colored special postage stamps. Endangered Animals 20-pfennig Value: Arabian Oryx Antelope This smallest species of ibex is already extinct in nature today. From Iraq to the north of the Arabian Peninsula it once inhabited drylands, semi-deserts and deserts. The pale coat color, from which the dark legs and face mask stand out in contrast, also hints at this habitat. With only a few animals, an attempt was made to save this antelope species from extinction. Thanks to successful zoo breeding, the world herd at the end of 1978 already included 144 individuals. Tierpark Berlin was the first in Europe to receive Arabian oryx antelopes in 1979, and in the same year the first calf was born here. An International Studbook for this species is kept in the San Diego Zoo.
