Solidarity In support of international solidarity, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a special postage stamp with a supplement. The sums collected will be made available to the Solidarity Committee of the GDR. Anti-imperialist solidarity - this noble tradition of class-conscious action - is omnipresent in the GDR. Solidarity has become a moral norm and a matter of course for us: our friends in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola and Yemen, our class brothers in Vietnam, Laos and Kampuchea, young Nicaragua and patriots in Bolivia and Chile. In close alliance with the Soviet Union and with all the states of the socialist community, the citizens of the GDR, big or small, young or old, practice solidarity with all the oppressed, their freedom and the peoples of the world who are struggling for human dignity and their independence. Our solidarity not only helps alleviate suffering and hardship, but also bridges reprisals and terror. It also helps to build a new life. And above all, it helps to bring together all those who fight for peace and social progress on a worldwide front. This global solidarity is proving to be a powerful social barrier to the intrigues of imperialism and reaction in various regions of the world. The clenched fist of international solidarity, which is constantly strengthening, has shaped the positive social changes of recent decades. Many peoples who fought for their freedom at the beginning of the sixties and to whom our solidarity applied nowadays have an important say in all questions of international politics. Other peoples, who later rose against national oppression, are reaping the first fruits of their courageous struggle today. Recently, we are experiencing the triumph of the triumph of the Kampuchean people, the victory of the patriots of Nicaragua against the Somoza dictatorship. The people of Zimbabwe have freed themselves and the Palestine Liberation Organization has been able to extend its international recognition. Afghanistan consolidated its progressive path and the Iranian people succeeded in overthrowing the reactionary Shah regime. These victories are the successes of all the progressive forces of the world, successes for the peoples of the socialist community, for the international labor movement and for the national liberation movement, successes for peace and security on the globe.
