Leipziger Herbstmesse 1980 At the 1980 Leipzig Autumn Fair, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues two multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from August 26 to October 25, 1980 Leipzig Autumn Fair 1980 10-pfennig value: Leipzig-Information The building Leipzig-Information was built in the years 1968/69 according to designs of the architects Krantz, Großmann and Burtzick in the area Brühl / Sachsenplatz - directly in the city center - built. The Leipzig Information is a political and intellectual-cultural information center with tasks of cultural and tourist services for the population and visitors of the city of Leipzig, with support function for delegations and tourism as well as a special congressional service. In its ten years of existence, the facility has received about 10 million visits. One focus of the services is the Leipzig fairs. The Leipzig Information is also an exhibition center, since 1969 145 special exhibitions have been shown. Every year at the autumn fair the exhibition "Most beautiful books from all over the world" takes place. Likewise, special interest was given to the Dürer and Cranach honors in the GDR, to visual artists and craftspeople, to the construction activities of the city of Leipzig and to exhibitions from foreign partner cities. The information center is characterized by an interesting architectural design in the considerable dimensions of 54 x 30 m. The exterior is dominated by the glass-aluminum facade, which makes the house open and transparent. In the emphatically generously designed lobby hall on the ground floor with inviting seating areas and informaive showcases, the various services are provided. Next to the decorative copper wall design by B. Kubas is the entrance to the Mokkabar, which also has a patio at the Katharinenstraße. The information center and the Sachsenplatz with its interesting landscaped gardens and water features have become a popular meeting place for people from Leipzig and their guests, especially in the summer months. The fountain sculptures made of coarse nickel steel (on the stamp in the foreground) was created by the Leipzig sculptor Harry Müller.
