Endangered animals With illustrations of several endangered species, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues six multi-colored special postage stamps. Endangered animals 10-pfennig value: Cat Bears Bamboo jungles on the south-eastern slope of the Himalayas are the habitat of this colorful little bear. Altitudes from 2,000 to 4,000 m are the preferred residence area. The main ingredient of the food are plants and their fruits. In addition, small rodents, birds and their eggs as well as insects are consumed. Cat Bears, also called Small Pandas, are skillful climbers, and also spend their rest periods in branch forks or tree caves. Because of the difficult to access habitat and the rarity of the animals, there are hardly any imports from the wild. Since the offspring in zoos is rare, the stocks are low there. As an aid to the successful conservation and breeding of the cat bears, an International Stud Book will be set up in the Rotterdam Zoo
