With this scientific success of epoch-making effect, he opened up a wide range of natural and artificial organic compounds to experimental research, thus contributing to the rapid advancement of chemical engineering, especially the tar-paint and pharmaceutical industries. The drawing on the special postal stamp represents the equilateral hexagon as the formula of the benzene ring.
