Meritorious Personalities of the German Workers 'Movement - Issue 1979 The Department of Postal and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes four commemorative postage stamps depicting deserving personalities of the German workers' movement. No special first day cover envelope Special cancellation from 11th September to 10th November 1979 Philipp Dengel Son of a small farmer and winemaker, was born on 15 December 1888 in Ober-Ingelheim (Rheinhessen). Studied history and philology from 1907 to 1911; worked as a teacher in Heidelberg until 1913. Since 1911 member of the Social Democratic Party; Co-founder of the "Räte-Zeitung", organ of the Central Council of the Unemployed. As a correspondent, he worked for some time in the Soviet Union. He became a member of the KPD in 1919, first as a teacher for the party, later editor of the "Rote Fahne" and editor at KPD district newspapers. From 1922 to 1924 member of the district management middle Rhine or water edge. 1924-1930 member of the Reichstag. In 1925, the leadership of the party was transferred to him together with Ernst Thalmann. 1925-1935 member of the Central Committee of the KPD. As a member of the Politburo until mid-1929 and the secretariat of the Central Committee until 1928, he was instrumental in enforcing a Leninist policy. Since 1928 member of the ECCI, he worked in various European countries for the merger of the workers' movement against fascism and war. Later he was a teacher at the International Lenin School of the AI and in other functions at the ECCI. He returned to Berlin in September 1947 with a serious illness. Philipp Dengel, who earned special merit in the Marxist-Leninist training of the members of the KPD, died on March 28, 1948 in Berlin.
