In 1891, this Anklam-born engineer was the first person in the world to fly in an aircraft that was heavier than air and dropped 15 meters. After the return of Waleri Bykowski and Sigmund Jähn with the spaceship Soyuz 29, performed the crew of Salut 6, Vladimir Kovaljonok and Alexander lwankenkov, a new pioneering achievement: The coupling of the spacecraft Soyuz 31 from the stern to the bow of the orbital station. This maneuver was required to allow another Progress utility spacecraft to dock at the rear of Salut 6, where the tanks are located where the fuel replenishment must be pumped.
