Leipziger Herbstmesse 1978 At the Leipzig Autumn Fair, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues two multicolored special postage stamps. Special cancellation from 29th August to 28th October 1978 Leipziger Herbstmesse 1978 25 Pfennig value: Messehaus "Drei Könige" In place of the old guest and Kaufhof "Zu den Drei Königen", Petersstraße 34, first mentioned in 1680, stands the modern one Fair House "Three Kings". Information about the traditional name gives the set on the left above the entrance, ornate bay window. The material used was shell limestone, which is particularly docile to the sculptor's chisel. Thus, the figures in posture and gesture are quite convincing. Below, unmistakably by the insignia of their dignity, three bearded figures: the legendary, three kings from the East, who gave the name to the house Above, also worked out as a bearer, three young female figures, whom the artist as kings played to the kings. The royal figures, originally carved and gilded as wooden inns, were later rebuilt in stone, and finally they reappeared in a third, the current variant, when the new building took over the house tradition. "Trusting in victory, built in war" can be read on the bay window. The house was built in the middle of the First World War in 1915/16 and had to go through all the stations of construction hampered by the war economy. Colorful changed in the first years, the exhibits. One after the other, the house saw musical instruments, toys and sporting goods displayed in its rooms. Since 1950, after the reconstruction and reopening of the four storeys, the "Drei Könige" trade fair center with its 2,500 square meters of exhibition space has been the center of the international shoe trade fair in Leipzig twice a year. Extremely significant is the fact that from 1866 August Bebel had a modest apartment in the former back building in the same location of today's trade fair center and also led his revolutionary activity from a nearby workshop.
