No special first day cover envelope Special cancellation from 18 July to 17 September 1978 20 Pfennig value: Dr. med. HANS LOCH (November 2, 1898 to July 13, 1960) Hans Loch was born in Cologne. After studying law and obtaining a doctorate, he worked as a consultant at courts and in business. During the period of fascism he was repeatedly exposed to repose because of his democratic attitude. After the liberation from fascism Hans Loch belonged to the activists of the first hour. He was co-founder of the LDPD in Thuringia. In 1946 Hans Loch became Lord Mayor of Gotha and in 1948 Minister of State in Thuringia; In 1949 he took over the Ministry of Finance of the GDR. From 1950 until his death Hans Loch was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the GDR. Above all, Hans Loch's significance as a leading politician of the LDPD is that in the years of the anti-fascist-democratic upheaval against the resistance of reactionary forces he consistently adhered to the block policy and, as chairman of the LDPD (1951-1960), led this party into socialism. Hans Loch plays a large part in the fact that German-Soviet friendship became the heart of many people of bourgeois origin. The workers and peasants power honored his tireless commitment to the socialist homeland with high honors.
