VI. Gymnastics and sports festival and VI. Children and Youth Spartakiade of the GDR To the VI. Gymnastics and sports festival of the GDR and the VI. Children's and Youth Spartakiads of the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multicolored special postage stamps, two of them with surcharge. The surcharge will be made available for the event. Special cancellation from 19 July to 18 September 1977 Vl. Gymnastics and sports festival and Vl. Children's and Youth Spartakiads of the GDR As one of the most important and biggest sporting events of the German Democratic Republic in 1977, from the 25th to the 31st of July 1977 the Vl. Gymnastics and sports festival and the Vl. Kinder- and Jugendspartakiade held in Leipzig. The festival is under the slogan: "For health, recreation and joie de vivre, for efficiency and achievement, for peace and socialism! Drive all sport!" (1) Under this guiding principle, for the first time, the tasks of the Kinder- und Jugendspartakiade and those of the Gymnastics and Sport Festival are united in a major sporting event under the patronage of the Secretary General of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and Chairman of the State Council of the GDR, Erich Honecker. There will be 60,000 athletes participating in the festival. Alone 10,000 Spartakiad participants will compete in fair competition for the Spartakiadesieg and account for how they achieve good performance through training and competition to emulate such athletes and athletes as Ruth Fuchs, Kornelia Ender and Waldemar Cierpinski (this thought comes in the special postage stamp 5, 20 and 40 pfennig to the expression). They will do everything to represent our German Democratic Republic at home and abroad through good sporting achievements. They prove to what great achievements an athlete is capable under the conditions of socialism. The Spartakiade fire is ignited in the memorial and memorial Buchenwald and brought by a relay to the city of Leipzig. A special highlight of the festival is the sports show of the German Gymnastics and Sports Federation. In it joins joie de vivre and efficiency, beauty and confidence of life in the socialism (this is represented in the special postal stamps to 25 + 5 and 35 Pfennig). Of the training associations, including the exercise association of the Leipzig children in pre-school age with 1,200 participants, exercise association of girls and women with 2,00O participants, exercise association of minstrels with 4,500 participants and the exercise association of the East Stand with 12,500 participants, major sporting achievements will be presented. During the festive season in Leipzig, an extensive program of national sporting competitions will take place. There are national sports facilities available, which are open daily and where 60,000 to 70,000 sports enthusiasts Leipzig participants in the party and guests will be active in sports. A highlight will be the central course of the gymnastics festival, which will be held simultaneously on six different running routes on July 31, 1977 and will be attended by about 100,000 runners (special postage stamps of 10 + 5 pfennig). A bowling alley with 20 bowling alleys, on which about 1.20O participants from all districts of the GDR will fight for the title of gymnastics champion, is set up in an exhibition hall in Leipzig. Another hall will be transformed into a large table tennis competition with 27 table tennis tables. There are 1,000 table tennis players determine their winners. On 36 volleyball fields is played both for Spartakiadegold and the title of the Turnfest winner. According to the traditions of the festival numerous international competitions take place in track cycling, football, athletics, performance gymnastics and gymnastics.
