Leipziger Spring Fair 1977 At the Leipzig Spring Fair 1977, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued two multicolored special postage stamps. Leipziger Spring Fair 1977 10-pfennig value: Messehaus am Markt The Messehaus am Markt is one of the 16 trade fair venues with a total of around 100,000 square meters of exhibition space, which the trade fair city of the GDR in the city center has for the international consumer goods fair. The new building with more than 5,000 square meters was built from 1961 to 1963 in place of the 1943 bombed exhibition house "National", market 16 and Petersstraße 1-7, which had grown together in the beginning of the 20th century from several buildings to an exhibition palace. The history of Eckhaus Markt / Petersstraße dates back to the 15th century. At the end of the 17th century, for example, a coffee house was housed here, in which concerts of the College founded by Telemann Collegium Musicum took place. At the Leipzig Spring Fair, the Messehaus am Markt is mainly reserved for the International Book Fair, which has more than 400 years of tradition. Well-known publishers and book trading companies from more than 20 states offer publishing products. Alone with about 10,000 book titles from 80 publishers, the GDR foreign trade book export is represented, which has its seat in Leipzig. At both fairs, hunting weapons and watches are also on display in the Messehaus am Markt. The trade fair "interscola", which presents teaching materials, equipment and furniture for educational institutions from the GDR and abroad, dominates the Messemesse am Markt during the autumn fair. The purpose-oriented complex solutions offered by the GDR for the most diverse pedagogical areas are a convincing demonstration of the high level of achievement of the socialist education system in the GDR. In the period between fairs, the fair house on the market for many special events such as the domestic trade fairs of the GDR, the district art exhibition, special sales of department stores u.a. used. From May 6 to June 5, 1977, the next edition of the International Book Art Exhibition (iba '77), hosted by the Leipzig City Council and the Börsenverein der Deutschen Buchhändler Leipzig, will take place in the Messehaus am Markt. 50 years after the first International Book Art Exhibition in 1927 and after the exhibitions of 1959, 1965 and 1971, which attracted great international attention, the book city of Leipzig continues a good tradition with the 1977 exhibition.
