Games of XXI. 1976 Olympics To the games of the XXI. Olympics In 1976, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multi-colored special postage stamps and a special postage stamp block. Two special postage stamps are marked with a surcharge, the proceeds of which are made available to the Society for the promotion of the Olympic idea in the GDR. Games of XXI. 1976 Olympics The modern Olympic Games have seen a clearly visible progressive development, especially since the participation of sportsmen and women from the socialist countries. Tens of thousands of the most outstanding athletes on all five continents use the Olympics more and more thoroughly, in order to train even more intensively, to be even better prepared for the Olympic competition. As in many countries of the world, it has become a tradition in the German Democratic Republic that a stamp series be dedicated to this most outstanding sporting event. As in the case of the brand series for the Winter Olympics, some of the competition venues and sports facilities of the German Democratic Republic are also being presented here, which are used by the athletes of our country for training and competitions and have already been used to host important international competitions. In addition, it should be made clear with two motifs from the wide range of popular sports that only by an all-encompassing development of physical culture and sports a healthy basis for high-performance sport can be secured. On 7 November 1972, this modern sports and congress hall, which is shown on the 20-pfennig value, was handed over to the public in the district capital Suhl. With an outer diameter of 66 meters and a height of 20 meters, it offers an ideal venue for all martial arts. A side hall of 18 by 18 meters and a modern bowling alley complete this new cultural building.
