From the Work of the People's Police - Traffic Education From the work of the People's Police, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued five multicolored special postage stamps with motives of traffic education. All five special postage stamps carry the slogan "For high order and security". For high order and safety Under the motto "For high order and security" the motives of this stamp series give a selected overview over the social co-operation and the activity of the traffic police with the guarantee of a safe and liquid road traffic in the GDR. Their joint efforts are aimed at further improving the order, safety and fluidity of road traffic under the conditions of constant increase of motorization and the increasing compression of traffic on our roads. More than 5.5 million motor vehicles are currently driving on our roads. Almost one in four households has its own car. At about three inhabitants comes a motor vehicle. A high level of order and safety on the roads corresponds to the basic concern of our socialist society to protect the life and health of citizens against road traffic hazards and to prevent damage to means of transport, goods in transit and road traffic facilities. Accordingly, in accordance with the social and personal interests, the willingness of the citizens to actively participate in solving these road safety tasks is growing. More than 170,000 citizens in the companies, communities, residential areas and schools contribute in their spare time to improving order and safety in road traffic. Almost 11,500 citizens volunteer as volunteers of the traffic police. With great responsibility and expertise, they support the traffic police in traffic monitoring, traffic regulation and control, in explaining the traffic regulations and legal education of citizens as well as in traffic accident processing (35-pfennig value - carrying out a road user training by a volunteer assistant of the traffic police).
