XII. 1976 Olympic Winter Games To the XII. Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck In 1976, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multi-colored special postage stamps, two of them with a supplement, and a special postage stamp block. The sums raised will be made available to the Society to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. XII. 1976 Olympic Winter Games On February 4, 1976, the XII. Winter Olympics opened. While the aces of winter sports all over the world prepare for these competitions, the Olympic Games are also prepared by a variety of other measures. At the request and suggestion of the Society for the Promotion of the Olympic Idea in the GDR and in accordance with the National Olympic Committee of the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issues a stamp series of six stamps and a block. For the first time, some of the competition venues and sports facilities of the German Democratic Republic will be presented at the six brands. Here, the Olympic champions of the GDR train and prepare for the Olympic competitions and carry out their GDR championships and international competitions. The 20-pfennig mark shows the speed skating track in the Berlin Sports Forum. Built as the first artificial ice rink of the GDR in 1962, it quickly became internationally known and popular. Every year performance comparisons of the best speed skaters from all over the world take place here. The railway has a length of 400 m and is 13.60 m wide.
