International solidarity In support of international solidarity, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a multicolored special postage stamp with surcharge. The sums collected will be made available to the Solidarity Committee of the GDR. No special first day cover envelope International solidarity The political, moral and material solidarity of the working class and the whole people of the GDR is an important part of the policy of our socialist workers and peasants state. It proves how much the ideas of international friendship and proletarian internationalism determine the thoughts and actions of all classes and strata of our people. The citizens of our country, whether they are young or old, practice solidarity with all the oppressed peoples of the world fighting for their freedom and their independence. In accordance with their socialist convictions, they put their energy at the service of international attachment to the worldwide struggle of the peoples against imperialism and colonialism, for national liberation and social progress. Great are the achievements of the worldwide anti-imperialist solidarity movement with the USSR and the other states of the socialist community as the stable guarantor of peace, security and social progress of peoples. But just as big are the tasks that have yet to be solved. The slogan "Solidarity - now more than ever", originally shaped for the Vietnam solidarity of our people, still has full justification. Because the forces of war, reaction and aggression do not give up their attempts to fight international relaxation. Our Vietnamese fraternal people need our help in building socialism in the north and in normalizing life and creating a new and democratic social order in the south of the country. Cruel rages the fascist regime in Chile. Nearly 30,000 people were murdered, around 50,000 patriots were exiled; tens of thousands of people were arrested in 1974 alone. Like the outstanding labor leader Luis Corvalan, thousands of patriots are tortured in torture sites belonging to the military-fascist junta, many of them adolescents and children. But even under this incredible terror, the anti-fascist resistance movement in Chile is consolidating itself. It is increasingly important to denounce the anti-human, anti-social and anti-national character of the fascist military junta, their terror and to expose the machinations of their imperialist backers. It is necessary to give moral and material support to the resistance struggle of the Chilean people and thus to contribute to the overcoming of the fascist regime. There is peace in Vietnam, throughout Indochina. Now the aspiration of all peace-loving and democratic forces is directed to extinguishing the still-smoldering hotbed of war in the Middle East. The only real road to a peaceful solution is the return of all Arab territories occupied by Israel in 1967; in securing the legitimate rights of the Arab people of Palestine, including their rights to statehood; in creating opportunities for all peoples and states of this area to live in peace and security. The newly created states from the former Portuguese colonies need our all-round support to build a new life in their independent countries. For the achievement of the political independence of these countries is only the first step on a new path. The liberated peoples are facing an extremely complicated phase of their revolutionary struggle. It is not only about overcoming the heavy colonial heritage - unemployment, illiteracy, illness, hunger, poverty. The reaction is not beaten, as shown in Angola. Powerful foreign interests combined with internal reaction hinder the process of decolonization and make the transition to political independence difficult. In South Africa, despite ever-increasing levels of terror, peoples are embarking on a brave struggle to eradicate the last bases of racism and colonialism on the African continent. Your fight is our special solidarity. The raised clenched fist - for decades a symbol of solidarity, the strength of community, the invincibility and the victory of the just cause of the peoples in the fight against imperialism, fascism, racism, for a dignified life of all peoples - it calls us to increased anti-imperialist solidarity. Even greater efforts are needed to expose and thwart the machinations of imperialism - whether in Chile and other Latin American countries, the Middle East, southern Africa or Portugal. Greater efforts are needed to give further and effective support to the Vietnamese people and the peoples newly freed from colonial rule in their new and difficult stage of their revolutionary struggle. The peoples of the world have an effective weapon that limits the response, restricts the power of imperialism, and helps turn the wheel of world history toward progress and socialism: international solidarity.
