Meritorious Personalities of the German Workers 'Movement (1975 Edition) The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues a special stamp with the image of a deserving personality of the German workers' movement. No special first day cover envelope MARTHA ARENDSEE The daughter of a social democratic book printer, was born on March 29, 1885 in Berlin. In 1906 she joined the SPD and joined the laundry workers' association a year later as a homeworker. Since that time she, who had learned a commercial profession, was closely associated with the revolutionary women's movement and social policy of the working class. Belonging to the revolutionary forces of German Social Democracy, it helped to organize the fight against the imperialist war and the bourgeois politics of the right-wing leaders of social democracy. The anti-war activities brought her in 1915 a short term. In 1917, Martha Arendsee joined the USPD. In her ranks, she actively participated in the battles of the November Revolution in Berlin, and subsequently joined the Central Committee for the breaking of the USPD with the Second International and for joining the Communist International. After the unification of the left wing of the USPD with the KPD, it devoted itself above all to the women's work and the social policy of the KPD. She worked in the Women's Reich Secretariat of the Communist Party and in the Reich Executive of the International Labor Assistance, whose Central Committee she was a member. In the years 1931 to 1935 she was international secretary for social policy of the IAH. It belonged to the Prussian Landtag from 1921 to 1924 and the German Reichstag from 1924 to 1931. Imprisoned by the fascists from April to September 1933, she emigrated to the Soviet Union on the decision of the party in 1934. Here she worked in the socio-economic department of the Red Union International. From 1941 to 1945 she was on the Moscow Radio for German-language broadcasts and the German People's Broadcasting, the transmitter of the KPD, active. Belonging to the founders of the National Committee Free Germany, she was its member from 1943 to 1945. After the liberation from fascist German imperialism, Martha Arendsee actively advocated the unification of the KPD and SPD. As co-signatory of the call of the Central Committee of the KPD on June 11, 1945, she participated in the 15th Party Congress of the KPD and in the Unification Party Congress of the KPD and SPD in April. She belonged to the party executive of the SED 1946/1947. Until 1948 she headed the social policy department of the FDGB Groß-Berlin and in 1949/1950 she was the chairman of the Groß-Berliner Versicherungsanstalt. Martha Arendsee, who made great contributions to the realization of the socio-political demands of the working class in the process of antifascist-democratic upheaval, died after a serious illness on May 22, 1953 in Berlin.
