XII. 1976 Olympic Winter Games To the XII. Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck In 1976, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multi-colored special postage stamps, two of them with a supplement, and a special postage stamp block. The sums raised will be made available to the Society to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. XII. 1976 Olympic Winter Games On February 4, 1976, the XII. Winter Olympics opened. While the aces of winter sports all over the world prepare for these competitions, the Olympic Games are also prepared by a variety of other measures. At the request and suggestion of the Society for the Promotion of the Olympic Idea in the GDR and in accordance with the National Olympic Committee of the GDR, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications issues a stamp series of six stamps and a block. For the first time, some of the competition venues and sports facilities of the German Democratic Republic will be presented at the six brands. Here, the Olympic champions of the GDR train and prepare for the Olympic competitions and carry out their GDR championships and international competitions. The block is dedicated to the venue Innsbruck and shows a panoramic view of the competition venues of the XII. Olympic Winter Games. An essential basis of socialist physical culture and sport in the GDR is the broad promotion of mass sports in many forms. Here, the Spartakiadebewegung takes an excellent place for the children and young people. Many of the best athletes found their way to their high abilities through the Spartakiadean competitions and mass sports events.
