Meritorious Personalities of the German Workers 'Movement, 2nd Edition 1974 The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues three special postage stamps depicting meritorious personalities of the German workers' movement. No special first-day cover Meritful personalities of the German workers' movement Carl Moltmann was born on September 23, 1884 in Brütz (Mecklenburg), the son of a Ziegler. At the age of eighteen, the journeyman joins the ranks of the Social Democratic Party and the German Timber Workers' Union, where he held responsible positions on the local and district scale. During the Weimar Republic, he served as party secretary of the SPD for the southwestern part of Mecklenburg, belonged to the Diet of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and 1932 Member of the Reichstag. Because of his anti-fascist attitude, he was imprisoned in 1944 for a short time. He drew lessons from the disastrous division of the working class. After liberation from fascism Carl Moltmann fought consistently for the unity of the workers' movement and was instrumental in the unification of the KPD and SPD in Mecklenburg. As a member of the party executive committee and the central committee of the SED and - until 1948 together with Kurt Bürger - as chairman of the state board Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, as president of the Mecklenburg Landtag and in other governing bodies, he worked tirelessly for the anti-fascist-democratic upheaval and construction of socialism in the GDR. His special support was for the new farm economies created by the land reform, the consolidation of the alliance of the working class with the working peasants and the development of democracy in the village. He was honored by party and state with high honors. Carl Moltmann died on February 5, 1960 in Schwerin.
