XI. Olympic Winter Games 1972 To the XI. Olympic Winter Games 1972 in Sapporo (Japan), the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multicolored special postage stamps, two of which with surcharge. The sums raised will be made available to the Society to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. XI. Olympic Winter Games With the issue of the six special postage stamps the XI. 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo appreciated. The motives chosen were six winter Olympic sports that have successfully developed in the German Democratic Republic. Ski Jumping (70 Pfennig Value) Ski jumpers of our republic first took part in the 1956 Olympic Games. At that time, at the Winter Games in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Harry Glaß, who won a bronze medal, caused a stir around the world. It was the first Olympic medal for our republic. Lang has now become the list of those who put in honor for the GDR on the Olympic celebrations and stood on the podium.
