Important Personalities, Edition 1971 The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six special postage stamps with illustrations of important personalities. No special first-day cover letter DDR honors eminent scientists, writers and artists JOHANNES R. BECHER was born on May 22, 1891 in Munich, the son of a high judge. When he died on October 11, 1958 in Berlin, he was the representative of the new socialist German national literature. In his artistic work - as in no other German poet of this century - the solidarity with the revolutionary workers movement, genuine patriotism, love for the Soviet Union and loyalty to Marxism-Leninism reflected. Becher's path led from the expressionist rebel to the mature poet of socialist humanism, to the Minister of Culture of the German Democratic Republic, to the poet of our national anthem. He was co-creator of a proletarian-revolutionary literature in Germany, poetical designer of the historical mission of the German working class and a new socialist image of man, prose writer and playwright, art historian and politician.
