XI. Olympic Winter Games 1972 To the XI. Olympic Winter Games 1972 in Sapporo (Japan), the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued six multicolored special postage stamps, two of which with surcharge. The sums raised will be made available to the Society to promote the Olympic idea in the GDR. XI. Olympic Winter Games With the issue of the six special postage stamps the XI. 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo appreciated. The motives chosen were six winter Olympic sports that have successfully developed in the German Democratic Republic. Figure Skating (10 + 5-Pfennig-Wert) With the figure skating in the GDR especially a name connects: Gabi Seyfert. In Grenoble 1968 was our multiple DDR champion Second, until in 1969 the big jump to the world title succeeded. Athletes and athletes of our republic have also won numerous trophies and prizes in pair racing. The Olympic idea and the high level of physical culture and sport in the German Democratic Republic form the main content in the design of these special postage stamps.
