In 1996, the international breast cancer expert Dr. Ernie Bodai the first "Breast Cancer Stamp" to life. According to the idea, as many donations as possible for breast cancer research should be made with this stamp. In the meantime, a staggering $ 30 million has been raised in America for the National Cancer Institute and the Breast Cancer Research Program. Spurred on by this success, Dr. Bodai made it their life's work to launch this stamp in as many countries around the world as possible to promote national breast cancer research. He has already succeeded in many countries: from Kenya to Belize, El Salvador, Hungary, Serbia and Kosovo - the "Pink Ribbon" stamp is already very widespread. It is thanks to the commitment of Österreichische Post AG that this stamp is now also available in Austria. The present supplement mark, which shows a painting by the American artist Whitney Sherman as motif, has a twofold benefit: in addition to the transport fee for the corresponding postal item (EUR 0.90), the surcharge of EUR 0.10 goes directly to the Austrian Cancer Aid. "Helping the weak and the sick in our society must be a matter of course," says Post-Director General Dr. med. Georg Pölzl. "Time and again, the Swiss Post supports actions and organizations that have set such help as their goal. We are happy to be able to make a small financial contribution to the important issue of cancer research. "(In addition to the new special stamp, a separate tin postcard is also issued, which also has a supporting function: 1 Euro per card sold goes to the Pink Ribbon promotion Austrian Cancer Aid.) "Remind your wife, girlfriend, mother, sister and cousin how important it is to go to mammography. Because early breast cancer detection can save lives! "- The statistics show that the importance of this urgent appeal of medicine is actually shown in the end: In Western countries, more women die of breast cancer than of any other cancer. In addition to healing, the preservation of the affected breast and, above all, the quality of life are the declared goals of medical treatment. The therapy usually consists of a combination of surgery and cytostatics, hormone and radiation therapy adapted to the stage of the disease. New approaches in the field of cancer immunotherapy are also made possible by monoclonal antibodies. The medical procedure is based to a large extent on experience from studies and is standardized in globally accepted guidelines.
