Cityscapes - District Cities of the GDR The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multicolored special postage stamps with cityscapes of district towns from the north of the GDR. Special Cancellation from April 5 to June 4, 1988 District Cities in the North of the GDR By depicting district towns from the north of the GDR on special postage stamps, the German Post pays tribute to cities that make significant contributions to our country's economy and considerable respect for their higher education and universities. Extensive resources are spent by the state to restore and preserve unique historic buildings and architectural ensembles. New residential areas surround the old city centers and carry the handwriting of resourceful hard-working citizens. 25-pfennig value: Ribnitz-Damgarten Ribnitz and Damgarten were united in 1950 into one city and since 1952 district town, lies at the mouth of the Regnitz in the Saaler Bodden and today has 17,500 inhabitants. The west-east traffic of the district Rostock leads through the city, whose most important enterprises are the furniture combine with the VEB Faserplattenwerk. The VEB Ostseeschmuck, companies of the food industry and the construction industry continue to be important for the city. One of the city's major cultural institutions is the Amber Museum. The two cities kept after their union next to their names and their coats of arms.
