The late Gothic wooden relief in the winged altar of St. Martin's Church in Ludesch in the great Walsertal in Vorarlberg forms the motif for the Christmas stamp. The carved inside wings show scenes of the birth of Christ in four motifs. The high altar created in 1629 is the eye-catcher of the whole sacral space. However, some parts of this altar (wings) are likely to date from the 16th century. In the center stands Mary with the baby Jesus on her right arm. She is assisted by Saint Lucius, patron saint of the bishopric of Chur, and St. Martin, patron saint of the church. The first written mention of the church dates back to 842. Archaeological excavations have shown that the ground plan and masonry of the original building actually go back to the 8th century. The St. Martin's Church is considered the landmark of Ludesch.
