The Christmas stamp 1986 shows the picture of a nativity scene from the possession of the cloister Schlierbach, cut in linden wood by Johann Georg Schwanthaler. The relief is in a carved frame under glass and has a size of 22 x 31 cm. It shows a pious folkloric depiction of the Christmas event as it was traditionally imagined. Johann Georg Schwanthaler was a member of the famous Innviertler artist family, which produced seven generations of carving and sculpting artists. He belonged to the fifth generation, and was born as the eldest son of Franz Mathias on January 26, 1740 in Aurolzmünster. First, he went with his father to Ried in the Innviertel. Then he probably worked in Wels with the sculptor Ignaz Mähl, whose daughter he married in 1765. Then he started his own business in Gmunden. The Great Nativity of Altmünster is attributed to him. Altar works by this artist are also in Kematen an der Krems and in Schöndorf. He died on 23 September 1810 in Gmunden.
