The Christmas postage stamp of the Austrian Post for the year 1985 represents an outstanding work of art, which is characteristic of a whole series of Salzburg sculptures of late Gothic. The depiction shows Mary and Joseph, who protectively frame the newborn child. Little angels have joined in and in the background the architecture of the stable of Bethlehem is hinted at. Attentive viewers of Salzburg's inner city can discover figurative or heraldic reliefs of red marble on the facades of the town houses, over the portals or in the arcaded courtyards. Most of them date back to the 15th or early 16th century and bear witness to the prosperity of the then Salzburg citizenship. This red marble is also the 100 cm wide and 130 cm high relief, which served as a template for this Christmas stamp. It is located on the outer wall of the house Imbergstraße 1.
