Abraham a Sancta Clara once said in a Christmas sermon: "As the Son of God was born, many miraculous things happened, and after a while, the fairly deep snow in the same area vanished, and the trees appeared with flowers and leaves, but the earth beautiful flowers dressed and decorated as it were. " A little reminiscent of this old folk belief today is the custom of the Christmas tree, usually a fir, of which already the well-known Christmas carol reports: "You green not only in the summer time, no, even in winter, when it's snowing." Consequently, it is to be equated with the ever-greening world tree, whose color harmonizes with the moon of light and is also considered the color of hope. When the Christmas tree first settled in Vienna at the beginning of the last century, a simple song was heard for the first time in the old Oberndorf parish church of St. Nikola near Salzburg on the Christmas Eve of 1818, which soon conquered the world - "Silent Night, Holy Night". The brand motif shows the altar of Mary in the Johanneskapelle of the Nonnberg nunnery in Salzburg. The late-Gothic carved altar was redone at the end of the 19th century, with the dates "1498" and "renovated 1601" being revealed. This is the year of origin 1498, under the government of the important archbishop of Salzburg Leonhard von Keutschach, secured.
