III. Children's and Youth Spartakiads of the GDR 1970 For the II. Children's and Youth Spartakiads of the GDR in 1970, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issues two multicolored special postage stamps, one of them with surcharge. The surcharge will be made available for this event. From 20 to 26 July 1970 takes place in Berlin, the capital of the German Democratic Republic, the III. Children's and Jugendspartakiade of the GDR instead. Every two years since 1966, the central children's and youth party accords are regularly held in the Olympic summer and winter sports. It is attended by the best children and young people between the ages of 12 and 18, who have qualified for the final struggles from the whole width of the Spartakiad movement - every year since 1965 in all schools and circles of the Republic of Spartakiadevet. Already in this short period of only five years, the Spartakiad movement can look back on considerable success in terms of both the development of the pace and the level of sporting achievements. Thus, the number of participants in the precincts for the district partakids increased from 1,890,000 in 1966 to 2,590,000 in 1968. The improvement in the level of athletic achievement is also marked by the fact that the total of 1,993 new county records from 1965 in 1968 are opposed by 6,997 new district records. But also such athletes as Karin Janz, Petra Vogt, Gabriele Wetzko, Roland Matthes - former Spartakiadesieger and today world class athletes - make the improvement of the athletic performance level particularly clear. This emphatically underlines the words of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany and Chairman of the State Council of the GDR, Walter Ulbricht, who in September 1966 at a reception for excellent athletes in evaluation of the first central child and Jugendspartakiade of the GDR said "The task now is to continue the Spartakiad movement among children and adolescents with energy and energy! This is the best way to new achievements in the popular sport of youth, to new successes in international championships and Olympic Games!" Now around 12,000 of the best young athletes from all parts of the republic - selected from the millions of the Spartakiad movement - meet again in Berlin to fight for victory and medal in 19 summer sports in fair competition in the spirit of the Olympic idea.
