The Göltzschtal bridge between Reichenbach and Netzschkau in the southwest of Saxony was built between 1846 and 1851 by the construction of a connection between the commercial and commercial centers of Leipzig and Nuremberg. At 78 meters at that time the highest railway bridge in the world, it was initially planned with four floors and numerous arches, similar to one of the then still built aqueducts. However, later subsoil problems forced a bolder and at the same time more effective design of the middle of the bridge with two large arches of around 31 meters span. The 574-meter viaduct consists of approximately 26 million bricks, making it the largest brick bridge in the world today.
