Also this year a special postage stamp block "For us children" will be published again. And again it's a great colorful stamp, this time showing a raging messenger and a motley horse. More than 500 years ago, when the "post office" was still in its infancy, there were no frenzied postmen, but riding messengers, and they were often on the road for days to deliver news. Often enough it was also dangerous for these riders, because they and later also the stagecoaches were often attacked and robbed by highwaymen. There were no stamps at the time and the fees had to be paid in cash. The first German stamp was issued in 1849 by the then Kingdom of Bavaria. Of course, it was not nearly as pretty and as colorful as the children's brand. Today, of course, everything is much faster, and it is no longer dangerous for the postman. Your letters and cards are delivered on foot or by bicycle, transported by car, train or even by plane. And of course everyone is happy about a letter, which is covered with such a beautiful stamp.
