As Europe's most successful show, "Wetten dass ..?" Captivates an audience of millions to this day. The special charm and quick-wittedness of Thomas Gottschalk - entertainer, show pro and world star - and of course the spectacular bets inspire the audience for decades. With a lot of the creators of the show entered uncharted territory in the television landscape of the 80s. Hans Joachim Kulenkampff, Rudi Carell and Joachim Fuchsberger dominated the Saturday evening entertainment. The native of Austria Frank Elstner broke into this squad with a concept that should encourage the audience to participate. Candidates who are particularly good at beting will bet that they will prove it to millions of viewers. This idea struck the audience, and so the program is running since the first broadcast on 14 February 1981 until today. From the 40th broadcast, Thomas Gottschalk took over the moderation and did not give it up except for a short break. That he would once become Germany's most popular show master, would probably have never thought of born on May 18, 1950 in Bamberg and trained as a teacher son of a lawyer. But already during his studies he discovered his true vocation and worked as a freelancer on radio and television. With the talk and music show "Na so was" he made the breakthrough. With this broadcast began his continued popularity. In "Wetten dass ...", the tall blonde with the "Supernase" proved to be a worthy successor to Frank Elstner, and to this day the audience thanks him for his unrivaled ratings - as Gottschalk's trademark in the show is his relaxed and spontaneous conversation and even his own Gottschalk is a sought-after presenter at major gala presentations and fundraisers, with awards and various media prizes accompanying the media star from the beginning, twice receiving a Golden Camera and the Golden Rose of Montreux in 2005. Privately, the now 57-year-old seeks rest on his second home in Malibu, California.
