The parish church in Upper Austria Steyr houses some artistically and historically valuable glass windows. One of the most important of these is the "Radkranzadonna", which Austrian Post is now presenting on a reference from the series "Sacral Art in Austria". The glass picture dates from around 1520 and shows Our Lady Mary with scepter and crown in a wreath of sunbeams, holding in her arms the baby Jesus. Her red dress and the blue cape are very plastic because of the folds and shades. The motive of the Blessed Mother in the Radiant Wreath has been known since the Middle Ages and can be found on manuscripts and pictorial panels, such as the monastery of St. Lambrecht. The origin of this representation of Mary in the Revelation of John, where Mary is called as a woman, whose son will rule and "will be taken to God and his throne". Mary with her child became a sign of hope for the people in times of trouble. - Today's parish church of Steyr dates from the 15th century and was built in Gothic style. Hans Puchsbaum, the master builder of the Vienna St. Stephen's Cathedral, had the construction management over. In the 17th century, the church was baroque according to the taste of the time. At the instigation of the former monument keeper, the writer Adalbert Stifter, was carried out from 1853, the transformation of the church in the neo-Gothic style, such as a neo-Gothic high altar, side altars and a new pulpit were built and built many picture windows. The church is the most important sacred building in Steyr and is known far beyond the borders of Upper Austria for its architecture and artistic treasures.
