The approximately 30 cm large black reel, also called almond crow, is unmistakable due to its colorful plumage. Particularly striking are the turquoise blue color of the head, underside and wing top and the cinnamon brown back. The small arm covers, however, are iridescent violet blue, while the wing rear edge shows a dark brown to black color. The head is relatively large, as is the strong, downwardly bent and slightly hooked dark beak. The blue box nests mainly on the edge of light forest stands, but sometimes it also benefits orchards and larger parkland. In Austria, this bird is very rare to observe - he regularly breeds only in the area Stainz in the southeastern Styria.
