Old African Art Treasures in Museums of the GDR With pictures of Old African art shooters from GDR museums, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic publishes six multi-colored special postage stamps. Special cancellations from June 20 to August 19, 1978 Old-African art shooters in GDR museums The motifs of this special postage stamp issue reflect objects from the rich collections of the Egyptian Museum of the Karl Marx University Leipzig and the Egyptian Museum of the National Museums in Berlin in the exhibition "Africa in Antiquity - Art Treasures from Nubia and Sudan" organized by the Brooklyn Museum, NY, USA, with scientific support from the National Museums in Berlin, GDR, 1978/79. 5 Pfennig value: cattle figure, clay, 1st half of the 2nd millennium BC u. Z. - Egyptian Museum Leipzig The figure of a longhorn cattle (height 12.2cm, length 13.3cm) was in 1914 in Aniba (ancient administrative center between the 1st and 2nd Nile Cataract located) in the cemetery N at grave 214 by G. Steindorff together found with other animal figures. It is here like most similar finds to grave goods. The bovine, whose body is only slightly modeled, is one of the rare figurative representations of longhorn cattle. It has two powerful horns, the eyes are shaped as ridges, the ears are also plastically indicated. A horizontal scoring called the mouth, the nostrils are pierced. Beard mustache and dewlap are indicated, the legs are only schematically designed. The figure is made of burnt, brown to gray-brown clay, blackish in some places.
