GDR - Member of the UN On the occasion of the admission of the German Democratic Republic to the United Nations Organization on 18 September 1973, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the German Democratic Republic issued a multicolored postage stamp. The German Democratic Republic is a member of the UN The German Democratic Republic is on Tuesday, September 18, 1973, on the XXVIII. Meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York as a member of the United Nations Organization. The World Forum's decision was warmly greeted by delegates from member states in the large dome hall of the Assembly's convention building. With their historic decision, the United Nations praised the consistent peace policy of the socialist German state. The inclusion of the GDR as the 133rd member state and the simultaneous inclusion of the FRG as the 134th member state was based on a unanimous recommendation of the Security Council of 22 June 1973.
