Elisabeth of Thuringia is considered an outstanding figure in church history. Born as a Hungarian princess in 1207 (the exact date of birth is unknown), she became involved with the poor and the sick, regardless of her status. Her work was so strenuous that she died on November 17, 1231 at the age of only 24 years. For her selfless service to the next, Elisabeth was canonized in 1235. Their commitment to socially disadvantaged people, their sense of justice, their courage and their confidence are still regarded by many believers as exemplary. Numerous Elisabeth churches, hospitals and clubs around the world testify to this.
