The city of Landshut was founded in 1204 by Duke Ludwig I. For a long time she was the residence of the ruling dynasty of the Wittelsbach family and the capital of Old Bavaria. As a visible sign of their wealth and self-confidence, the citizens of Landshut had the Martini church built from 1389 with the 130.6 meter high tower. It is still the tallest brick tower in the world. The old town with its gable houses from the 15th and 16th century is a great example of historic city architecture. Landshut today has about 60,000 inhabitants. The city is home to a university of applied sciences and is a location for companies in the automotive and glass industry.
