800 years ago, the city of Wiener Neustadt was mentioned for the first time in a tradition book by the Bavarian Benedictine monastery Formbach am Inn. The founding of the town dates back to Leopold V, who recognized the threat of the stone field from enemy flocks from the East, and therefore decided to build a heavily fortified town in the middle of the plain. A ministerial meeting convened by Leopold in Fischau, in 1194, can be regarded as a founding meeting for the city of Wiener Neustadt. However, shortly after the meeting, the founder of the town died, and so the realization of this project remained with his younger son, Duke Leopold VI. Reserved.
